You guys rock. I'd just like to say this. I plugged my new Linksys WMP54G into a PCI slot (it was hard enough because of the way HCL designs its Beanstalk desktops), and booted up Ubuntu 8.10 and it just worked. This is the way things should be.
You can get one of these at Mercy Electronics on L.B. Road, Adyar, if you can't find it elsewhere. It cost me Rs. 1275.
Interestingly, installing it on Windows XP is quite an affair, and Vista has its own section in the manual. The true way hardware should work is plugging it in and having it work. That said, Linksys has a nice program on Windows that allows you to turn management of wireless straight over to Windows XP (instead of letting their program do it), a definite improvement over the Netgear software which not only sits in the tray for no reason, but also replaces msgina.dll (which is related to your login manager), and consequently disabling remote desktop connections.
I'll say it again, the Netgear WG311 is junk.
