Backup server

April 7, 2009

Due to my stinginess (and therefore incompetence) the backup server in this house is probably less reliable than any of the computers here. I also now know why people pay to get techs to fix their computers. Sometimes it's nothing at all, all you have to do is reseat the RAM, check the connections, boring stuff, and suddenly it all whirs to life but god is it annoying to have to do that.

By the way, HCL Beanstalk, their cases are awful. Want to take out the hard disk? Sorry, CPU Fan and heat sink in the way. Want to take out floppy drive? Sorry, screws on both sides, and one side the motherboard blocks access to the screws. Then there's the case cover which is oddly shaped for no reason. I mean, I'm no hardware techie, but when I place the cover on the rails and let the hooks catch I expect it all to fit, and that works everywhere except on this funky case.

This is India. Non-standard case dimensions and shoddy build quality is the way of life here.

Man, you still alive?! You dropped off the grid. That GPRS isn't working out too well, is it?

I don't know, man. About it being the way of life and stuff. But this one is brilliantly designed. It's impossible to do anything inside.

What do you mean off the grid? Like I was hanging out on the net all the time twittering and changing Facebook status or whatever.

You were always on messenger. That's a fact.

You realise I can do that right now also? From 5 to 11 atleast.

From 5 to 11 in the evening?
